Ismael Rosa’s magnetic salsa vocals and big-band orchestra La Justicia commanded the 1980’s. But Ismael Rosa’s six-day career in a drug ring was a costly one. Federal prosecutors used the Three Strikes Drug Law to force the judge to sentence Ismael to life in prison. Ismael was a nonviolent drug offender whose first two strikes were for using cocaine. He had never spent a day in prison before being sentenced to life. Ismael Rosa spent 23 years in prison. President Obama granted him clemency on March 30, 2016.
